The Tour covers a substantial area of the historic center of Rome, which starts at the Quirinale going to the Tiber River and ending on the Sant'Angelo Bridge with the famous statues of angels, right in front of the Castle which was once the monumental tomb of the Emperor Adriano.
During the Baroque period, Rome was populated by numerous churches, some of which were built with spectacular outlines and shapes as never seen before, such as Sant ’Andrea al Quirinale and San Carlino alle Quattro Fontane.
Thanks to the powerful religious orders and the commissioning of prestigious private families, these churches were soon filled with masterpieces, such as the sculpture representing the Ecstasy of Saint Teresa of Ávila created by Bernini for a chapel in the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria; the spectacular illusionistic frescoes painted by Friar Andrea Pozzo in the Church of Sant ’Ignazio di Loyola; the frescoes by Pietro da Cortona in the church of Santa Maria della Vallicella. Together with the wonderful public fountains, these works will be the highlights of our tour.
