Built in 1325 by order of Duke Charles of Anjou, the Certosa di San Martino became the mother church of the Carthusian Order. Even today, around the evocative monastery cloister, the small monastic cells reflect the monks’ search for peace, silence, and contemplation, offering visitors a fascinating journey through spirituality and history.
The major renovation launched in 1590 transformed the Certosa into one of the most important artistic sites in Southern Italy: craftsmen and artists from Rome and across the Spanish Viceroyalty were commissioned to decorate the complex, creating an extraordinary masterpiece of Neapolitan Baroque art.
The works, which lasted nearly a century with various modifications and expansions, now reveal a breathtaking visual impact: from the magnificent frescoed vault to the precious polychrome marble floors and richly decorated chapels, every space represents an artistic treasure of immeasurable value. The beauty captivates both indoors and outdoors, with panoramic terraces offering one of the most spectacular views over Naples—bright and vibrant on sunny days, atmospheric and poetic even in the rain.
After admiring the extraordinary panorama, you will continue toward the Pedamentina, a historic stepped pathway that crosses the hillside, connecting the Certosa directly to the historic center. The descent will be a continuous discovery of breathtaking viewpoints and picturesque corners, until you find yourselves immersed in some of the city’s most authentic and lively neighborhoods, surrounded by the sounds, colors, and atmosphere that make Naples truly unique in the world.
The final stop will be the majestic Piazza Dante, a monumental crossroads between the historic center and the modern city, and a symbolic hub of Neapolitan cultural life.
An exclusive and immersive experience combining art, history, spectacular views, and authentic local life, perfect for travelers who wish to discover Naples from a privileged perspective accompanied by an expert guide.
