Our archaeological walk begins in a very special place: the “Velabro” area. The meaning of this word is uncertain, but several sources report that at the origins this place, today in the center of the city, was a marshy area not far from the Tiber, where - according to legend - the basket with the twins Romulus and Remus stranded.
Going up north we will continue the itinerary through the "Fori", the Foro Olitorio and the Foro Boario, the areas close to the ancient defensive walls, where the first city markets developed, near the commercial port on the Tiber Island. In the Republican age They became important administrative and cultural areas of the city.
This itinerary, which describes a circular route, passing through the Theater of Marcellus and the Imperial Forums, will reach the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus: the great structures for public entertainment that had great importance during the Imperial period.
During the tour we will also have the opportunity to observe traces of Archaic Rome, dating back to the historical phase in which the city was under the rule of the Etruscans.
