The liaison between Rome and cinematic art starts at the beginning of the 20th Century and intensifies when in 1937 the Cinecittà Studios were founded. Nowadays this area has been transformed into a museum but for a long time it was one of the largest production sets in the world. The official recognition of this relationship came in 2015, when UNESCO declared Rome “Unesco City of Film”, including the city in the network of creative cities in the world.
The movie tour will show the most iconic places in Rome, which have contributed to the notoriety of some films and their protagonists. The purpose of the tour is to discover the different ways in which Rome has been represented in international film productions. The cheerful romanticism of William Wyler's Roman Holiday (1953) reflects the optimism and desire for freedom that characterizes the period of the Italian economic boom, while instead La Grande Bellezza by Paolo Sorrentino (2013) leads us on the introspective journey of protagonists, in an intimate and decadent atmosphere. Then there is, obviously, the Rome of Federico Fellini, an international master of cinema, who made some places in the city unforgettable through his dreamlike and elegant language.
